What is a Self-Paced Studio Session?
It’s a session where you can use the studio independently to work on your clay projects at your own pace – no structured class, no instructor leading the session. You bring your ideas, and the studio provides the tools, wheels, and space to create.
Who is this session suitable for?
Ideal for those practicing skills, finishing projects, or exploring new techniques independently. Complete beginners are welcome, but we recommend trying a workshop first so you feel confident using the tools and wheels safely.
Do I need prior experience before booking?
Some experience is helpful, especially with pottery wheels, hand-building techniques, and studio etiquette. If you’re new, we suggest attending a workshop first.
What's the difference between this and a workshop?
Workshops are guided, step-by-step classes with an instructor, while Self-Paced Studios are independent studio spaces, where you can work freely on your own projects.
Booking & Timing
How long is each session?
Each session is 2 hours. (*Back-to-back sessions are more than welcome if the studio is available – please check with us when booking.)
What happens if I arrive late?
Your session will still end at the allocated time to accommodate other bookings. We recommend arriving a few minutes early so you can make full use of your time.
Can I come earlier than my booked time?
Please arrive only at your scheduled time. We’re unable to accommodate early entry as we’re usually preparing the studio for other sessions before your booking starts.
Do I need to book in advance or can I walk in?
We recommend booking in advance via WhatsApp to secure your spot. Walk-ins may be possible but are not guaranteed.
What is your cancellation / rescheduling policy?
Cancellations or rescheduling must be made at least 48 hours in advance. Fees or member credits for late cancellations are non-refundable.
Space Options
What's the difference between the Private Studio and Open Studio?
Private Studios give you quiet, focused space, while the Open Studio is a shared, social space where you work alongside other makers.
How many people can share a Private Studio?
Private Studios are limited to 2 guests per room. For groups of up to 4, two rooms can be combined for a more spacious setup.
Can I choose my preferred space when booking?
Yes – You need to choose your prefered studio when you book, subject to availability. For consistency and safety, guests cannot switch spaces mid-session.
Guidance & Support
Will there be an instructor teaching during the session?
No – this is a self-guided studio time. Staff may answer questions and provide tips if you get stuck, but cannot provide full instruction during sessions.
What should I do if I'm completely new/rusty?
We recommend starting with our guided workshops (beginner-friendly). This will help you get comfortable with the wheel in a safe, supported setting.
Tools & Materials
What is included in the session?
Access to pottery wheels, workstations, and all essential studio tools.
Is clay included in the session price?
Clay is not included, but can be purchased at the studio.
Can I bring my own clay / tools?
No – only materials provided by Mano Studio are permitted to ensure kiln safety and firing consistency.
Are aprons provided?
Yes, aprons are available to protect your clothing.
Firing & Finishing
Is firing included in the session price?
No – firing is charged separately. Please read “Firing Charges” for more details.
How much is firing / glazing?
Prices vary depending on size and quantity. Please read “Other Charges” for more details.
When can I collect my finished pieces?
Finished pieces can be collected after firing – typically 5-7 weeks depending on kiln schedule. You will be contacted via Whatsapp when pieces are ready for collection.
What happens if my piece cracks or breaks during firing?
The studio is not responsible for broken pieces, but staff can provide tips to minimise risk if needed.
What happens to unclaimed pieces?
Unclaimed pieces may be adopted or reclaimed by the studio after 3 months. To keep your work safe, submit it for firing, pick it up within 3 months, or contact us for extended storage. (*Storage fees may apply.)
Storage & Membership
Can I store my work at the studio?
Yes – your greenware can be stored for up to 1 month. Pieces must be wired off bats and tagged with your name and date.
After 2 weeks, you must either submit it for firing, continue working on it, or re-tag it for storage. (*Storage fees may apply.)
Is there a storage fee?
Storage is included for members for up to 1 month after firing.
If an extension is needed, you may contact us via Whatsapp. Extensions are subject to availability and may incur an additional fee.
What if I can't finish my piece in one session?
You may store your work-in-progress pieces for up to 1 month and continue working on it in another session.
Do you offer packages or memberships?
Yes – we offer membership credits valid for 1 year, ideal for regular makers. (*Credits are non-refundable and cannot be shared.)
Studio Rules & Clean-Up
Do I need to clean up after myself?
Yes – cleaning your workspace is mandatory, and should be returned to their proper place. Leave the studio as clean (or cleaner!) than when you arrive.
Is cleaning time included in my session?
Yes – your 2-hour session includes setup and cleanup. Please allow time to clean your workspace before your session ends.
What are the studio rules I should know?
- Respect the studio and other guests, and keep your area tidy and equipment in good condition.
- No outside clay, glazes, or tools.
- Follow safety guidelines at all times.
- No food or drinks are allowed near workstations or wheels. (You may have water in a closed bottle away from clay areas.)
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting messy, though skirts are not recommended. (*Aprons are provided.)
